For many years, the Jena Education Centre has stood for high-quality vocational education in a constantly changing world of work. As a modern education service provider, we combine sound specialist knowledge with practical training and individual support.

Our aim is to support people with career orientation, qualification and professional development – from first getting to know technical occupational fields through to targeted initial and further training for skilled workers. SCHOTT AG is a shareholder of the Jena Education Centre and, since its founding in 1884, has been one of the world’s leading manufacturers of specialty glass and glass-ceramics. The Jena site, as the company’s birthplace, continues to play a central role in the global innovation and production network. SCHOTT stands for long-standing materials expertise, technological excellence and a close connection between tradition and progress.

JENOPTIK

JENOPTIK AG is a shareholder of the Jena Education Centre and an internationally active technology group headquartered in Jena. The company specialises in photonic technologies and develops sophisticated high-tech solutions for numerous fields of application, including the semiconductor industry, medical technology, and metrology and security technology. The partnership with the Jena Education Centre supports the practical orientation of vocational training.

Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH

Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH is a shareholder of the Jena Education Centre and a wholly owned subsidiary of Carl Zeiss AG. At the Jena site, the historic founding location of ZEISS, the company focuses on the development, production and sales of highly precise optical, precision-mechanical and optoelectronic components and systems. The close connection between technology, innovation and training shapes the cooperation with the Jena Education Centre.

History of the Jena Education Centre

Since its founding, the Jena Education Centre has stood for a close connection between theory and practice in vocational education. In cooperation with strong partners from industry and business, the education centre has continuously evolved and adapted its training and further education programmes to the requirements of a changing world of work.

1991

Founding of the JAWA Academy for Training and Further Education

With the founding of JAWA gGmbH, vocational training and further education for SCHOTT at the Jena site is structurally reorganised.

1994

ZEISS becomes a shareholder

Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH joins as a shareholder and strengthens the focus on optical and precision-mechanical occupations.

1994

Renaming to SCHOTT-ZEISS EDUCATION CENTRE

The education centre positions itself specifically as a qualification hub for the optical industry and revitalises training for precision opticians.

1998

Realignment and expansion of training programmes

A stronger focus on CNC training as well as expansion to include further training and qualification shape the continued development.

2005

Introduction of a certified quality management system

Certification to EN ISO 9001 and AZWV (now AZAV) permanently establishes a high quality standard.

2006

Start of systematic career orientation

Career orientation programmes for pupils and young people become a permanent part of the offering.

2009

JENOPTIK becomes a shareholder

With the entry of JENOPTIK AG, Jena Education Centre gGmbH SCHOTT · CARL ZEISS · JENOPTIK is established.

2020

Relocation and modernisation of the sites

The move to Ernst-Ruska-Ring and the opening of the Göschwitzer Straße site mark the step into a modern, future-oriented educational infrastructure.
